Description

Directly Dating Plio-Pleistocene Climate Change in the Terrestrial Record https://doi. org/10.1029/2023GL102928 The reconstruction of Earth's climate record is typically founded on the physicochemical properties of marine sediments. Continental sediments that yield time-constrained climate information are rare, but important to interpret wider Earth system responses and the co-evolution of regional climate, landscape, and biota. This study presents direct dating of continental climate change on the Nullarbor Plain to constrain its development as an important biogeographic barrier driving spe…

Description

This dataset contains over 1,800 apatite fission-track (AFT) analyses derived primarily from Archaean to Palaeozoic igneous rocks and their metamorphic equivalents across the Australian continent from the 1970s to 2002. It includes detailed information on sample locations, lithologies, AFT age determinations, mean confined track length measurements and thermal history models. Originally reported by Kohn et al. (2002) and Gleadow et al. (2002), these data provide key insights into the low-temperature tectono-thermal evolution of Australia’s upper crust over the past ~300 million years. Parts o…

Description

This compilation brings together apatite fission-track (AFT) and (U–Th)/He thermochronology data acquired between 2002 and 2022 from regions spanning Australia and Papua New Guinea, primarily from the University of Melbourne Thermochronology Laboratory. It integrates both published and previously unpublished results derived from diverse igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary lithologies. The dataset includes detailed sample metadata, lithological descriptions, fission-track ages and length distributions, (U–Th)/He age determinations, and digitised thermal history models. Collectively, these dat…
